Charles (Chuck) Ray LaBerge, Sr., 94, of The Villages, FL passed away Thursday, November 26, 2015. Chuck was born in Oklahoma City, OK on January 31, 1921 to Clarence and Mary LaBerge.
Chuck had many professions during his lifetime, including a career in Hollywood as an actor/singer, producer/director and small business owner. He owned the rights to an old time melodrama called The Black Guard which he performed many times.
He joined the Marine Corps September 8, 1942 and served in the Pacific Theater. During his time in the Marine Corps he became friends with infamous director Ed Wood and was featured in some of his later films. The Streets of Laredo was re-released some years ago and Chuck was invited to attend the red-carpet premier in Hollywood. He was most proud of his work with the Marine Corps honoring enlisted Marines every September. He was a life member of the Marine Corps League and the Disabled Veterans.
He married Lynn Kathleen Michener on October 15, 1983. They traveled in the motor home for the first three years of their marriage until settling down in Alexandria, VA where Lynn became a partner in an Irish tour company. Charles and Lynn traveled extensively around the worked and took many cruises. Their last major trip was a cruise up the Amazon River.
Charles is survived by his wife Lynn, daughters Suzan LaBerge and Mary LaBerge, sons Barry LaBerge, Jeff LaBerge, Charles Ray LaBerge, Jr. and Jon LaBerge, stepdaughters Teresa Davis and Caroline Needs, stepsons Thomas Brown and James Brown along with 21 grandchildren and 15 great grand children and 10 great great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son Gary LaBerge and daughter Charleen LaBerge.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services, The Villages, FL. Inurnment will be at a later date at the Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell.
