A cleaning lady who told law enforcement she had been “struggling to survive” has been sentenced for stealing and pawning jewelry last year that belonged to her Village of Sunset Pointe employer.

Abigail Lorraine Bowles, 22, of Summerfield, had full access to the home on Baylor Place. She took jewelry and pawned it Sept. 29 at Belleview Pawn. When interviewed by a Sumter County sheriff’s deputy, Bowles said she was “struggling to survive” and needed money. She said she was extremely sorry for stealing the items, the arrest report indicated.

But Bowles was arrested again in November after she used the woman’s Citizens First Bank card and ran up charges on Oct. 26, 28 and 29 at Wal-Mart, Dollar General and Circle K.

When asked why she had used the Villager’s bank card, Bowles responded, “Because I’m an idiot,” according to the arrest report.

Earlier this month in Sumter County Court, Bowles entered a plea of no contest to a charge of grand theft. She was sentenced to two years probation, 60 days in jail and ordered to perform 50 hours of community.

She had already been sentenced in Marion County to two years probation and two months in jail on the credit card charges.
