Villager Clyde Kemper, who had been a driving force in The Villages Homeowners Association for two decades, died Friday at age 97.
He became a representative for VHA in Rio Grande II in 1994. With his wife, he published a Newcomers Information Booklet that became a Bible for the many newcomers flocking to The Villages. He also served on the VHA hospitality committee and as the organization’s historian.
He recently moved out of The Villages, relocating to the Carriage House in Oxford.
Last year, Kemper was honored for 75 years as a Mason. He was honored in December by Villages Masonic Lodge No. 394.
Kemper was initiated into the order on July 15, 1938, when he turned 21, in Waynesboro, Pa. By November that year, he had become a Master Mason. Before becoming a Mason, he had been a member of DeMolay International, a masonic organization for young men ages 12 to 21.
He later served on a masonic traveling team that visited various lodges and was a founding member of the Villages Lodge after moving to Florida in 1993.
