Colony Professional Plaza parking lot being transformed to make way for Wal-Mart

The Colony Professional Plaza parking lot is being transformed to make way for a new Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market.

Crews operating heavy equipment have been busy laying pipe and moving dirt for the new Wal-Mart to be sandwiched between the Sarasota Golf Course and Colony Professional Plaza. They are also converting the parking lot to become a roadway to the new store.

Heald Way will cut through Colony Professional Plaza and will provide access to the new store off County Road 466A. The expanded Heald Way will run directly in front of Colony Plaza Animal Hospital.

Golf cart access will be via the tunnel under CR466A and from the path that runs directly by the animal hospital.

The new Wal-Mart is expected to open in 2017.
