A Community Development District supervisor is calling for the end of the Multi-Modal Path Discussion Group.
The group, which includes representation from CDDs 1 through 10 and the Amenity Authority Committee, took up side striping of the multi-modal paths last year and currently is wrestling with signage and speed bumps.
“This has become a very hot item,” CDD 3 Supervisor Gail Lazenby said of speed bumps at Friday’s board of supervisors meeting.
He said he had received 10 phone calls from bicyclists who are opposed to speed bumps. He said more speed bumps could force the bicyclists off the multi-modal path and onto Buena Vista Boulevard which parallels most of CDD 3’s share of the multi-modal path.
“I’m not interested in having more bicycle traffic on Buena Vista,” Lazenby said.
He said he fears that the Multi-Modal Path Discussion Group has taken on a life of its own.
“It is what you predicted,” said fellow CDD 3 Supervisor Tillman Dean.
Lazenby said it is time to “deconstitute” the Multi-Modal Path Discussion Group. He said if there is a need for the group in the future, it could easily be resurrected. He said he feared the group is searching for a problem in need of a solution.
“It will be one thing, then another, then another,” Lazenby said.
CDD 3 supervisors previously agreed they are not in favor of speed bumps and do not support spending residents’ money on additional signage.
