Counterfeit bill turns up at Oxford Downs

A counterfeit bill turned up Tuesday at Oxford Downs, the card room located on U.S. 301 in Marion County.

Security personnel at the card room reported the incident to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.

The security officer indicated that the man who attempted to use the phony bill is “a regular” and did not do so with “ill intent,” according to an incident report from the sheriff’s office. The man told a deputy he did not know the bill was bogus and does not remember where he got it.

The counterfeit bill will be forwarded to the Secret Service.
