A counterfeit $100 bill turned up Tuesday at the Office Depot in Summerfield.
A Marion County sheriff’s deputy responded to the Office Depot located at 17950 South U.S. Hwy. 441 in reference to an unknown person attempting to pass a counterfeit $100 bill, according to an incident report. Upon arrival, the deputy made contact with the store’s manager who stated an unknown white male wearing a black shirt and camo shorts entered the business and attempted to make a purchase with a fake $100 bill. The manager stated that the bill passed the money marker test, but realized the bill was counterfeit because the paper was too thick. The manager then questioned the unknown man about the money, in which he responded that he received the money from a Publix. When the manager advised the man that the bill was counterfeit, the man asked for the bill back. The manger also advised the man he was contacting law enforcement, at which time the man exited the store and walked toward the McDonald’s parking lot. The manager observed that the man did not enter into a vehicle.
The deputy collected the counterfeit bill and placed it into evidence.
