A Village of LaBelle couple emerged from a Thursday-afternoon workout at MVP Health Club in Brownwood to discover their golf cart had been stolen.
Greg and Marcia Miller had arrived at Brownwood at about 2 p.m. in their his-and-her golf carts which they parked together in a single parking spot. When they came out of the gym about an hour later, Marcia’s golf cart, from which she had removed the key before heading into MVP, was gone.
Marcia had several personal items in the cart, including a new smart phone tucked away in a storage area.
“This actually proved to be beneficial. We were able to use an Android website and ping the phone – which provided the phone’s physical location,” Greg said.
They provided the phone’s location to the Wildwood Police Department.
Rather than waiting for a call back from the investigating officer, they drove to the location hoping to locate and repossess their golf cart.
“When we arrived, we found six police officers already at the scene,” Greg said.
No golf cart, just the phone. It had been wiped clean.
The phone was found on County Road 468, adjacent to the main entrance of the new Village of Fenney.
“We assume the thieves loaded the golf cart onto a trailer in Brownwood then tossed the phone into the ditch as they were escaping the area,” Greg said.
The golf cart was insured and the couple is working with their insurance company.
