Dale George Brummer

Dale George Brummer

Dale George Brummer, of The Villages, FL, left this world peacefully on October 8, 2016, following a courageous battle with corticobasal degeneration, a very rare, very aggressive movement disorder for which no cure or medication exists. Dale was a kind and gentle man with a contagious smile and an acute sense of humor even in the toughest times. (Ask him what he considers an adage to live by, and he’s likely to say, “Never underestimate the power of a good cookie”.) Dale is survived by Teresa, best friend and loving wife of 45 years. He is predeceased by his parents, Henry and Adeline (Schmidtbauer) Brummer. He is survived by his sister, Shirley (Magnus) Faust of Andover, MN, nephew, Mark (Laurie) of Circle Pines, MN, niece, Terri (Steve) Trombley of Zimmerman, and several great-nieces and great-nephews. Dale was born in Brainerd, MN, on February 26th, 1942. He attended grade school in a one-room schoolhouse, District 32; Crosier pre-Seminary in Onamia, MN; and Major Seminary at St. John’s University, Collegeville, MN. He was ordained a Catholic priest in June, 1967, and he married Teresa Nistler in December, 1970. Dale spent his employment years in the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul, MN. He retired from the Military Avionics Division of Honeywell, Inc., after 25 years as a Technical Writer and Work Director. The Brummers lived primarily in the Minneapolis suburbs of Brooklyn Center, Brooklyn Park, and Plymouth. They retired to The Villages in central Florida in 2002. The Golden Rule was Dale’s way of life. Because he loved to help others, he spent much of his retirement time volunteering, first as an official for the Lady Lake Little League. Following that, he volunteered as an AARP tax preparer for several years and was also an active member of The Villages Hospital Auxiliary. Dale then volunteered with the American Cancer Society Road to Recovery, driving cancer patients to their appointments and then back home following their treatments. After reading an article in the Villages Daily Sun about CERT (Community Emergency Response Team), Dale joined the CERT team soon after the devastating tornado of 2004 damaged so many homes in The Villages. CERT members stopped at every home that was damaged and checked with the homeowner to see if help was needed. And, last but not least, he dedicated his time to helping seniors understand their options with Medicare through SHINE (Serving Health Insurance Needs of the Elderly). Although Dale will be greatly missed, our world is a more wonderful place because he was here.
A memorial service celebrating Dale’s life will be held at Freedom Pointe, Independent Living, The Villages, Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at 3 p.m. Anyone wishing to make a monetary contribution in memory of Dale may direct that contribution to the Anatomical Board of the State of Florida, the University of Florida College of Medicine, PO Box 100235, Gainesville, Florida 32610-0235.
