David Alan Green

David Alan Green

David Alan Green, 73, of The Villages, FL, passed away unexpectedly on November 13, 2017. He was active until the very end of his life, participating in a charity bike ride and then celebrating with friends before being called home. David was born February 25, 1944 in Norwich, New York to Llewellyn Green and Anne (Funnell) Green.

After graduating from Norwich High School in 1962, he enlisted in The United States Navy where he served aboard three ships. He attended various Sonar Schools, Instructor Observer School and served at Fleet Training Group in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Following his nine year enlistment he graduated from Broome Community College (BCC) and went on to have a 30 year career at New York State Electric and Gas (NYSEG).

During his career at NYSEG, he continued to serve in The US Naval Reserve and retired as a Master Chief Petty Officer (E-9) with 30 years of service. David also served as National President of The Naval Enlisted Reserve Association from 1991-1992. He was a member of The BCC Adjunct Faculty for Continuing Education for several years. He retired from NYSEG as an Engineering Supervisor in 2003.

After retirement, David and his wife Charlene moved from New York State to The Villages Florida where he enjoyed many activities including photography, golfing, billiards, biking and walking. He also worked part time for several years as a golf ambassador.

David leaves behind his wife, Charlene, of 38 years; a sister, Doris Beltz; children, Trisha (Ted) Tryka and Brian (Heather) Green; grandchildren Kobe and Abigail Green; several brother and sister-in laws, nieces and nephews. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

A private graveside service with military honors will be held in early December 2017 at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Operation Shoebox, a volunteer organization that supports our US troops abroad with care packages. Donations may be sent to: Operation Shoebox, P.O. Box 1049, The Villages, Florida 32158
