To the Editor:
It is unfortunate that Sumter County Democratic Organizations are not allowed the same visibility within the Villages compound as The Republican clubs. This is not for lack of trying!
Democrats have made attempts twice to rent space for the Democratic Headquarters, same street, one block down from the Republicans in Lake Sumter prior to the republicans occupying the space they are in.
Response from Villages Commercial Rental Office staff and management: “This is not suitable for political activities.”
Space was also requested on behalf of Senator Bill Nelson for an office located within The Villages, similar to what Congressman Richard Nugent, state Senator Alan Hays, and state Representative Marlene O’Toole have. No surprise, the same response came from the Villages Commercial Rental Office, “This is not suitable for political activities.”
There are 18,000 registered Democrats in The Villages. Last time I checked, we have a two-party system in this country. Apparently, not in The Villages.
