Marion County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Gary Miller made his 1,000th career DUI arrest during a traffic stop Dec. 2 involving an intoxicated driver in Belleview.
Miller has been a DUI specialist for the MCSO for 10 of his 17 years of service and has consistently made close to 100 DUI arrests each year. Deputy Miller has taken numerous courses in DUI detection, field sobriety exercises and drug impaired driving. He also teaches field sobriety exercise detection to all of the incoming deputies at the MCSO.
Deputy others about the effects of impaired driving. He moderates local victim impact panels that emphasize how impaired driving affects others and encourages our citizens to be responsible drivers. Deputy Miller is also on the Board of Directors for West Central Florida Driver Improvement, Inc., and has received numerous recognitions from MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) and other organizations.
Like so many others, Miller has had family and friends who have lost their lives as a result of drunk driving.
“I truly believe that drunk or impaired driving affects everyone,” said Deputy Miller. “It’s very important, especially during this holiday season, that our citizens have a plan before they consider partaking in any festivities. Impaired driving is no accident, and definitely has a lasting ripple effect on so many lives.”
