More details falling into place regarding Trailwinds development on County Road 466A

A final plat for the Trailwinds development north of County Road 466A and west of the Sandhill golf course received approval Monday night from the Wildwood Commission.

Final plans call for 19 commercial lots, two office lots, one assisted living center parcel and a 165-acre residential tract that will be subdivided.

Commissioners also approved an ordinance that adds medical facilities, a multi-story indoor storage facility as well as a shooting range and gun shop to the list of the project’s permitted uses.

A Lowe’s home improvement center and an Aldi grocery store are expected to open by early next year. A gas station and liquor store also are planned.

Legacy Lifestyles Senior Housing Group of Palm Harbor plans a 120-bed assisted living center. A neighborhood of single-family homes will be developed on the northeastern portion of the site.

When completed, the Trailwinds development will include 296 homes, 462 assisted living beds, 572,750 square feet of retail space and 151,500 square feet of office space.

Last year, the Trailwinds developer paid for a $1.8-million sewer line to the site from Wildwood’s sewage treatment plant west of U.S. 301.

At Monday’s meeting, about 20 residents showed up to watch the swearing in of Joe Elliott as Wildwood’s newest commissioner. After he was sworn in, Elliott discussed his priorities. He said schools are a critical part of the community and pledged his support to them.

City Manager Bill Ed Cannon reported that financing is falling into place for Wildwood’s new police station at County Road 462 and U.S. 301. He said one bank quoted an interest rate of 2.612 percent.

“We need to be able to get the building up and paid for in 15 years or less,” he said.
