Detectives need public’s help in search for shoplifter who fled in golf cart 

Sumter County Sheriff’s Office detectives are seeking the public’s help in the search for a suspect who attempted to shoplift merchandise Thursday at Beall’s at Southern Trace plaza.

The man entered the store at 7:30 p.m. Thursday and concealed items in a backpack and then left the store passing all points of sale. A loss prevention officer grabbed the suspect’s hand and in so doing, the suspect dropped the stolen merchandise and fled to the parking lot to his red Yamaha golf cart.
