A detective’s work led to the arrest of a woman suspected of ripping off a business in Spanish Springs Town Square earlier this year.
Serenity Dentistry and Spa reported Oct. 18 that a check that had been made out to an employee in the amount of $55.80 had been altered and cashed in the amount of $850 at a Bank of America branch in Leesburg.
A detective with the Lady Lake Police Department found that the name of the woman on the check also had a prior criminal history in Lake County. A warrant was obtained for her arrest.
Lake County sheriff’s deputies on Thursday went to a home on Cypress Road in Leesburg to take the suspect into custody.
Deputies arrived at the residence where 45-year-old Raymond Henry Pymer told them the woman they were seeking was not home. He invited them in to see for themselves.
The deputies found 45-year-old Cresta Marie Lawton hiding in an air conditioning handler latched shut from the outside.
She was taken into custody on the warrant as well as a charge of resisting arrest.
Pymer was also arrested on a charge of resisting arrest.
Both were booked at the Lake County Jail.
Pymer was released after posting $1,000 bond.
Lawton’s bond was set at $5,000 bond.
