District asks residents not to feed Egrets

The Recreation Department is asking residents not to feed the Egrets at Lake Mira Mar.

Many residents enjoy taking bread crumbs to the Egrets on the shore, but the waste the birds leave behind is becoming a public health nuisance.

The District is spending thousands of dollars to power wash docks at the lake because of the waste the birds leave behind.

Feeding the Egrets also takes away from their natural ability to feed themselves, District officials warned.
