During the Rotary Club of The Villages Thursday morning meeting, District Manager Janet Tutt stressed the importance of golf cart safety and the district’s efforts to educate and inform.
“Safety and golf cart safety in The Villages has been my number one mantra,” said Tutt of her focus during her tenure as District Manager. She recounted a near-incident years ago with a golf cart and indicated that from that point forward, golf cart safety has remained at the top of her list of priorities.
To demonstrate proper golf cart safety, Tutt played the recent golf cart safety video created by the District for the audience. View the full version of the video below:
The video also includes portions of drivers driving through gates in The Villages and causing damage/removing gate arms with their vehicles and carts. Tutt indicated that destruction of the gate arms can wind up causing structural damage to the mechanism involved and can pose a $250 penalty to guilty parties.
Tutt reminded all in attendance that practicing golf cart safety was imperative to preventing injury among cart drivers, but that accidents could happen to anyone. She indicated that one of the individuals featured in the District’s golf cart safety was involved in a cart accident and was rushed to Ocala Regional Medical Center to be treated for a head injury.
Tutt concluded her remarks on safety by heeding one final plea.
“I urge you, if you are in The Villages…whether you are in a golf cart or in a vehicle, please be careful.”
