TOP SEED FALCONS TAME #13 TEXANS 10-1

#11 BEARS OUTLAST #2 CARDINALS 17-15

Today‘s Division 3 action saw the completion of the quarter finals in the end of the season tournament. The Falcons defeated the Texans 10-1.  The first seeded Falcons scored first with 3 runs in the bottom of the 1st inning.  Woody Wood hit a solo homer after the first  batters were out.  Then Rick Mosher and Wayne Mallory followed with doubles and Doug St. Andrews drove in Mallory.  The Falcons scored 2 more runs in the bottom of the 2nd with hits by Harlan Voght, Dave Glass, Ron Nikstad, and Woody Wood.  The Texans didn’t get on the scoreboard until the top of the 6th inning when Carlos Lopez scored moving around the bases on hits by subs Jim Crabtree and John Buchanan.  The Falcons put the game out of reach by scoring 5 runs in the bottom of the 6th.  Singles from Tony Gosdeck, Harlan Voght, Dave Glass and Ray Jansco led to 2 runs and Ron Nikstad capped the scoring by hitting a 3 run homer.  Winning pitcher: Harlan Voght, losing pitcher;  Carlos Lopez.  Texans: 1 run on 10 hits no errors.  Bill Gurgel only Texan with 2 hits.  Falcons: 10 runs on 19 hits no errors.  Dave Glass & Harlan Voght 3 hits each while Alan Koch, Wayne Mallory, Rick Mosher, Woody Wood, and Ron Nikstad had 2 hits each.

The 2nd seeded Cardinals failed to advance to the semi-finals falling to Da Bears 17-15 in 10 innings.  Both teams scored 4 runs in the first inning.  The Cardinals added 3 runs in the bottom of the 3rd and 2 more in the bottom of the 4th to take a 9-4 lead.  The Bears got back into the game by scoring 5 runs on 7 singles and a walk in the top of the 5th inning.  The Cardinals failed to answer in the bottom of the 5th.  The Bears then took the lead 10-9 by scoring a run in the top of the 6th; but, the Cardinal bats woke up with 6 hits and a sacrifice fly to put up 5 runs in the bottom of the inning.  Da Bears responded with 6 hits, including a 2 run triple by Bob DePace, to tie the game at 14 all.  The Cardinals attempted to win the game in the bottom of the 7th; but, Bill Ryan was thrown out at the plate.  Both teams failed to score in the first extra inning.  In the 9th inning the Da Bears scored a run on a sacrifice fly by Dick Adams.  The Cardinals tied it up on a fielder’s choice by Bill MacCarroll.  On to the 10th inning where the Bears scored 2 runs, with the key hits being a single by Jeff Dillman and a sacrifice fly by Larry Revellese.  The Cardinals could not answer back as Manager Wayne Johnston lined out with runners on 1st and 2nd to end the game.   Winning pitcher:  Jeff Dillman, losing pitcher: Bill MacCarroll.  Da Bears 17 runs on 30 hits and 1 error; Bob DePace had 5 hits and Don Roberts had 4 hits.  Cardinals 15 runs on 24 hits and 3 errors; Larry Dickerson had 5 hits while Andy Betanzos, Bill Ray, Jerry Herrman, and Wayne Johnston had 3 hits.

Monday‘s Semi-final action will see #7 seed Chargers take on the #3 seed Titans at 9am on field #2; and, then #11 seed Da Bears take on the #1 seed Falcons on field #3 at 10:30am at the Buffalo Glen Softball Complex.
