Surrounded by the love of family and friends, Donald Carney passed away on Wednesday, January 14, 2016, under the loving care of the Villages Hospice House. He will be remembered as a gentle, generous, and kind man with unconditional love.
Son of deceased Joseph and Harriet Carney, he is leaving in grief his beloved wife of fifty- four years Kathleen; two daughters: Colleen Taylor of New Jersey and Noreen Harman of Florida; six granddaughters: Katrina, Angela, Sarah Harman and Peyton, Alexis, and Stephanie Taylor; two great- grandchildren: Lukas and Olivia – all of the loves of his life. He also leaves one brother Robert Carney of North Dakota and many nieces and nephews.
Don (aka Stretch) was the second youngest of eight children. He was employed by Howmet (Austenal) Corp., Rockaway, New Jersey for over forty years and retired as the Director of Quality Control in 1995. He attended High Point College, North Carolina prior to being drafted by the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.
He was a life member of the Knights of Columbus, third and fourth degrees, Past Grand Knight of Assembly # 514, Dover, New Jersey and Home Association President for many years. His love of life came in many venues; namely fishing, golfing, and playing basketball with his many buddies, where he was bequeathed “Mr. Basketball” of eastern Pennsylvania. He will be remembered for lovely landscaped gardens at home that were shared by many, especially the amarillas that were planted all over the Villages by friends and family.
His funeral arrangements will be shared together with family and friends, to include a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Timothy Catholic Church, Lady Lake, Florida on Wednesday, January 20, 2016 at 8:30 a.m., followed by his inurnment at the Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL at 10:30 a.m.
