Dorothy Shaffer Groves, 97 of Lady Lake, FL., passed away on Friday, September 18, 2015. Daughter of the late Marshall and Ocie Radabaugh McMillen. She was born near Masontown, West Virginia on June 18, 1918. She was employed at West Virginia University for 29 years and retired in 1980. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Masontown since 1936. She served there in many capacities among which was the pianist and choir director for 52 plus years. After her retirement she served as a secretary and bookkeeper for the family business for 22 years (Stoneking Memorials). She has been a member of Freedom Alliance, Citizens Against Government Waste, American Cancer Society, American Association of retired Persons, American Indian Federation, Charter member of The Presidential task Force, Church Extension (American Baptist Churches organization that helps build churches), Habitat for Humanity and American red Cross. Served actively in American Baptist Women’s Ministries both locally and in Goshen Association of Churches. Personal Care homes ministry through music, both singing and instrumentally. Compiled a book entitled “Leaves of Love”, gave piano lessons, sang with a women’s quartette, named “The Harmonetts”. She played piano in a small band for senior citizens and served as a volunteer at the Preston County Clothing Center and for the Preston County Buckwheat festival. In Florida she was active through crafts for Hospice Gift Shop and for personal care homes. She was a member of the Care Ministry through visitation in the name of the church. She is survived by her husband Eugene and her sister Edith Morris. Also several nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her father and mother. A Funeral Service will be on Saturday, September 26, 2015 at 2 p.m. at The Chapel of Christian Faith, 1401 Paradise Drive, Lady Lake, FL 32159. Interment will be at a later date at Beverly Hills Memorial in Westover, West Virginia.
