Dr. John A. Sousa, 85, of The Villages, FL, passed from this life Monday, December 12, 2016.
Born in Newport, RI, he was the son of the late Joseph and Mary (Andrews) Sousa of Portsmouth, RI.
John was a Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War.
He had a long and distinguished government service career from 1956 to 1984. He retired as the Scientific Director for the U. S. Army Research & Development Command Center in Natick, Massachusetts.
His hobbies included electronics, hunting, mountain climbing and tinkering. He was most proud of his family, his accomplishments, namely his doctorates in physics from Kings College and chemistry from MIT and counseling of graduate students at Northeastern University and MIT.
John leaves his wife of 60 years, Ruth E. Sousa; sons, John G. Sousa and wife Karen of Nashua, NH; Mark F. Sousa and wife Donna of Amherst, NH; a daughter, Cynthia Sousa McAuliffe and husband Joseph of Villa Rica, GA, a brother; Joseph Sousa and wife Kathy of Amherst, NH; 6 grandchildren; Jacqueline, Nicole, John Cameron, Kati, Shauna, Viktoriya; 3 great grandchildren; Jordan, Jude and Jovie.
Services will be held on 12/30/16 at 11 a.m. the Parish of the Resurrection Catholic Church, 449 Broad St., Nashua, NH 03063. Following the Mass, a private burial will be at 1:30 p.m. at the NH VA Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Highway Route 3, Boscawen, NH 03303.
