Driver admits to being high on marijuana after traffic stop on U.S. 301 in Wildwood

Jason Thanh Nguyen

A driver stopped for not having a working taglight on his vehicle admitted to a police officer he was driving while “high.”

Jason Thanh Nguyen, 24, of New Port Richey, had been driving at 10:15 p.m. Sunday when he was pulled over by a Wildwood police officer.

When the officer approached the vehicle, the odor of marijuana was detected.

During a pat down, a wrapper containing a marijuana bud was found in Nguyen’s pocket. There was also a crumpled napkin which contained marijuana, according to an arrest report from the Wildwood Police Department.

Nguyen was “disoriented and his speech was very muffled,” the report noted. He admitted he was high from smoking marijuana.

He was arrested on a charge of possession of marijuana and booked at the Sumter County Detention Center. Bond was set at $1,000.
