Driver airlifted from scene of accident on I-75 in Sumter County

A driver was airlifted from the scene of an accident shortly before 7 a.m. Tuesday on Interstate 75 in Sumter County.

A tractor trailer driven by William Jackson, 43, of Fort White was traveling south on I-75  when his vehicle collided with a Ford F-150 pickup driven by Richard Whitlock, 54, of Hernando. His truck went down a grassy embankment and he was trapped inside. He was airlifted to Ocala Regional Medical Center, having suffered critical injuries, according to a Florida Highway Patrol accident report.
