Driver who hit cyclist suffered diabetic episode

The driver of a vehicle that struck a bicyclist Friday was suffering from a diabetic episode during the crash, according to an accident report released by the Florida Highway Patrol.

Willard Gerald Woods, 79, of Azteca Loop, was driving south on Morse Boulevard south of San Juan Drive at 2:40 p.m. Friday when his vehicle struck a utility pole and then hit the cyclist from behind. The bicyclist is identified as Dale Ellen Hodgkins, 65, of The Villages, according to the FHP report. Woods’ vehicle went onto strike a tree.

Both were transported to Ocala Regional Medical Center as a result of the accident.
