A 40-year-old man was arrested after he presented a Brazilian passport rather than a driver’s license during a traffic stop Thursday in The Villages.

Marco Davila Pereira, who lives on Guava Street in Lady Lake, was pulled over for a seatbelt violation at 7:57 a.m. Thursday on Buena Vista Boulevard and St. Charles Place, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.

Pereira offered the deputy his passport from Brazil and when asked for a driver’s license, Pereira told the deputy he did not have one.

A check revealed Pereira’s driver’s license had expired on July 19, 2008.

He was arrested on a charge of driving on an expired license and booked at the Sumter County Detention Center. Bond was set at $1,000.
