Driver presents Mexican voter registration card during traffic stop by police in The Villages

A driver presented law enforcement with a Mexican voter registration card during a traffic stop in The Villages.

Jose I. Vargas, 24, of Summerfield, was pulled over at 11:51 a.m. Monday on Avenida Central in The Villages after a police officer noticed that the registration tag on Vargas’ 1999 Ford van was expired.

When asked for a driver’s license, registration and proof of insurance, Vargas presented the officer with a Mexican voter registration card and indicated he did not have a driver’s license or ID card.

He was arrested for having no driver’s license and booked at the Lake County Jail. He was released after posting $500 bond.
