A driver who ran a red light Wednesday night on U.S. 301 in Summerfield was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence.

Thomas Michael Sweeting, 47, of Ocala, was driving a Ford pickup at about 11 p.m. when he saw a light turning from yellow to red at U.S. 301 and County Road 42, according to an arrest report from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office. After the light turned red, Sweeting accelerated and drove through the red light, attracting the attention of a deputy.

When asked if he had been drinking, Sweeting said he had consumed “a couple of beers.”

He failed field sobriety exercises and refused to provide a breath sample. He was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence and booked at the Marion County Jail.
