Driver who failed to slow down for ambulance set off Sunday chain-reaction accident

A driver who had failed to slow down for an oncoming ambulance caused a chain-reaction three-car collision Sunday morning, according to an accident report released Monday by the Lady Lake Police Department.

The accident occurred at 9:40 a.m. Sunday on U.S. Hwy. 27/441 at Hermosa Street in Lady Lake.

A Lake EMS ambulance was responding to a 911 call, turning left from Hermosa Street onto U.S. Hwy. 27/441, according to the accident report.

Tina Renwick, 56, of Inverness was traveling north on U.S. Hwy. 27/441 and failed to slow down for the ambulance, the accident report indicated. Her vehicle rear-ended a vehicle driven by Wendy Ryals, 45, of Lady Lake. The impact pushed Ryals’ car into a vehicle driven by John B. Kramer, 61, of Wilmington, Del. Both Ryals and Kramer had stopped to allow the ambulance through the intersection.

Renwick and Ryals were transported from the scene by Lake EMS to The Villages Regional Hospital.

Renwick was ticketed on a charge of careless driving.
