The Drumming Circle came out Friday evening to welcome the full moon at the Villages Polo Fields.
Those who gathered on the grass with drums and lawn chairs were not disappointed.
As they drummed, a big, beautiful moon appeared shortly after 7 p.m., a little earlier than anticipated.
Jonathan and Gloria Joel of the Village of Sanibel were first-time drummers.
They drummed enthusiastically with the group as the waited on for the moon’s arrival.
Villager Jo Ward began drumming on a retreat after she lost her husband. She found it healing.
Since then, she has wanted to share her love of drumming with others.
“I highly recommend it,” she said.
The Drumming Circle meets 2-3 p.m. Thursdays in the small gazebo near the children’s playground in Lake Sumter Landing, across from TooJay’s. It is not necessary to own a drum to participate. Good substitutes are pots and pans, buckets, rattles or plastic or metal bottles filled with pebbles or dry beans. For information, call Jo Ward at 753-7241.
