Edmond H. “Ted” Heisler, 94, of The Villages, FL was born April 25, 1920 in Philadelphia, PA and passed away June 21, 2014. A graduate of the Penn Charter School in Philadelphia, PA, in 1938 with honors in scholarship and letters in four sports; soccer, basketball, squash and tennis as well as a graduate of Amherst College, Massachusetts, Class of 1942 where he played on the soccer (All American), squash (Captain) and tennis teams. He served three years and nine months in the Army Air Corps in World War II, with 28 months in the Pacific Theatre as a communications and radar officer before getting a M.A. in history from Columbia University in 1947 and L.L.B. from Penn Law School in 1951. Mr. Heisler returned to military service in 1951, serving in the US Air Force with various assignments as a judge advocate, including two tours of duty in Europe, four years at the Pentagon and a year in Vietnam. He retired with 21 years of active service in 1971. His career highlights include: Assistant District Attorney in Philadelphia from 1972-1974, Temple University Legal Department from 1974-1979 and instructor in legal subjects and tennis coach at Harcum Junior College, Bryn Mawr, PA, from 1979-1986. Mr. Heisler enjoyed competitive sports well into his retirement and was a National 70+ squash doubles champion in 1992 and 1993 and nationally ranked in senior tennis since 1986, being #4 in singles and # 2 in doubles in the 85+ age group in 2006. Survivors include sons: Charles E. and his wife Vicki Heisler of Colorado; David H. Heisler of North Carolina; daughter Patricia H. Fenner and her husband Tom of New Hampshire; 5 grandchildren; sister Mary Allison of The Villages, FL and other loving extended family. He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years Elisabet Tornquist Heisler in 2001. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday June 27, 2014 at 11 AM at Hope Lutheran Church in The Villages, FL with inurnment to follow at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL.
