Edward Joseph ‘Eddie’ Sargent

Edward Joseph Sargent “Eddie”, 87, of Leesburg, FL, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 30, 2017 at the Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center in Daytona Beach, FL. He was born in New York City, NY and moved to Leesburg, FL in 1977. Eddie was preceded in death by the “love of his life” Ruth K. (Mooney) Sargent.

Together, Eddie and Ruth had four children, June Vines of Leesburg, FL, Jerome Sargent (died 1979), Thomas Sargent of Fruitland Park, FL, Richard Sargent Sr of Leesburg, FL. His grandchildren, Danielle Moore of Wildwood, FL, Jeri Sargent of Leesburg, FL, Nicole Spivey of Oviedo, FL, Amber Sargent of Fruitland Park, FL, Richard Sargent Jr of Belchertown, MA, April Sargent of Leesburg, FL, Brandie and Branden Walker (twins) of Groveland, FL. His great grandchildren, Mackenzie Mauldin, Natalie Spivey, Shelby Moore, Katy Sargent, Glenn Johnson, Jordan Shiver, Kilonzo Walker, Zuri Spurlock. His brother Lt. Col Frank Sargent of Tavares, Fl. and sister, Margaret Maidhoff (deceased).

Eddie was an army Korean war veteran. He spent most of his career working in the grocery business ending the last 15 years with Publix for which he loved the company, his fellow co-workers, and customers. Eddie enjoyed volunteering for the Leesburg High School marching band and loved being a scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts of America. He enjoyed camping, boating, and fishing. A devoted husband, loving father, and wonderful grandfather and great grandfather. He was just one of those people that everyone that met him, loved him.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, October 4, 2017 at Beyers Funeral Home, 1123 W Main St, Leesburg, FL 34748 from 6 – 8 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at St. Pauls Catholic Church in Leesburg at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, October 5, 2017. Graveside services will follow at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL at 11 a.m.
