Enthusiasm for quilting spreads south of County Road 466A with launch of new chapter of Quilting Guild of the Villages

The Quilting Guild of the Villages is preparing to open its 21st chapter.

This chapter will be headquartered at Moyer Recreation Center in the Village of Pine Ridge.

Guild President Sharon Musch, likely new president Theresa Ierardi and Executive Board Secretary Jan Kloeffler hosted the first of three open houses recently at Moyer Recreation Center.

Both Musch and Ierardi are excited about their new chapter welcoming committee which will be used for the first time with the new chapter at Moyer.

“It is a mentoring program to help new chapters and  new officers get up and running.  In addition to visiting other chapters, we will have chapter presidents  meet with them for the first couple of months to help them get established,” said Ierardi.

New members will be joining a very active guild. With almost 1,100 members the Quilting Guild produces the biennial Showcase and participates in many service causes.

“In 2016 we donated $100,000 in money and in-kind donations,” said Musch.

Honor Flight, hospice organizations and nursing homes are some of the recipients of the lap quilts and place mats.

Tracy Newman stopped in and got information about the new chapter along with some quilting tips. She is starting a new quilt and is looking forward to joining a new chapter.

As Musch winds up her two-year term as president she says she hopes she has had a positive effect on the guild and she is looking forward to having more time to quilt.

“It is addictive,” said Musch, “while I was without power during Irma, I moved the extension cord that I was using to cook dinner in the crock pot into the room where my sewing machine is. It had two outlets so while the sauce was cooking I was sewing.”

“I know Theresa is going to be an awesome president,” said Musch. “She is very enthusiastic about the Guild.”

The next two open houses will be at Moyer Recreation Center on Tuesday, Oct. 31 and Tuesday, Nov. 7 from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. The first meeting of the new chapter will be Tuesday, Nov. 14, following that the new chapter will meet every Tuesday at Moyer starting at 8:30 a.m.

Future plans include a new chapter at Village of Fenney.
