After day two of the Men’s Village Cup Team Evans Prairie has extended their lead to 8 ½ to 5 ½ over Team Garden.  After yesterday’s grueling alternate shot format the players seemed a little more relaxed with todays team best ball format.

In match #2 Evans Prairie Captain Randy Dugger and partner Stanley Kita seemed to be on a mission.  They lost yesterday in the alternate shot format and seemed determined to turn that around.  They took an early lead and never let up.  Trying to catch up after being six down after eight holes, Eric Traux, playing with partner John Ranc, birdied the ninth hole on Cherry Hill only to have Randy make birdie on top of his.  Randy and Stanley were unstoppable this day winning the match 8-7.  Eric said “they played great and we were not at our best today”.  Now we cheer on the rest of the team.

Match #6  paired Evans Prairie Nick Kent and partner Ron Preslupski against Cane Gardens John Filipak and Lynn Hollosy.   Cane Garden took the early lead, being up as many as 4 holes on the front nine.  On the back Nick and Ron of Evans Prairie kept pecking away at Cane Gardens lead, finally tying up the match with a few holes to play.   The last couple of holes were tied, and the match ended up even, ½ point each.  Nick said, “we hung in there all day.  We sure didn’t have our “A” game.   They had us in a hole but we climbed our way back to even.  We were never ahead at all today so we will take a tie.  It was a good match”.

Match #3 today paired Evans Prairies David Martin and David Failey against Cane Gardens John Volkmann and Richard Framm.  David had made the winning putt for his teams point yesterday in Alternate shot.  Today he again secured a point for Evans Prairie with his Partner David Failey.   When asked what his secret to winning his matches was he said, “I was a coach in my other life.  When I am out of the hole I am a great coach for my partner, and it seems to be working.”  David Martn was also on the Evans Prairie winning Village Cup Team in 2014, so his formula seems to work.

Today’s two-man best-ball results:

Cane Garden Magee/Rybert defeat Evans Prairie Spangler/Worcester

Evans Prairie Dugger/Kita defeat Cane Garden Truax/Ranc

Evans Prairie Faile/Martin defeat Cane Garden Volkmann/Framm

Evans Prairie Bell/Ross defeat Cane Garden Ellis/Gromacki

Cane Garden Filipiak/Hollosy halve Evans Prairie Kent/Prislupski

Evans Prairie Soldi/Parker defeat Cane Garden Kranz/Picinich.

On the final day,  Captains will set up 14 singles matches.  The first team to 14 ½ points wins the Village Cup.
