Veterans Stories: The Roswell Incident and U-2 Pilot Gary Powers are connected

July 17 at 3:30 PM - 5:00 PM

On Monday, July 17, 2017 from 3:30 – 5 p.m. at The Villages Public Library at Pinellas Plaza in Conference Room 102, The Roswell Incident caused quite a stir in July of 1947 and ultimately wound up becoming synonymous with government cover-up and conspiracy theory. Roughly 13 years later, the May 1960 Soviet downing of the U-2 American spy plane piloted by Gary Powers became a defining moment in the Cold War between the Soviet Union and U.S.  As disparate as these two events seem, did you know they are actually related?
You may know Mr. Rick Blair as the Sumter County Veteran Services Office manager, but in a prior life he retired from the U.S. Air Force after 27 years as an intelligence analyst.  Before transitioning into civilian life, he also taught history, strategic warning and threat assessment, and counter-drug policy courses at the national Intelligence University in Washington, DC.
