FAA doesn’t respond to Lake Co. plane crash due to government shutdown

A student pilot crashed a plane in rural Lake County on Thursday but because of the government shutdown, the Federal Aviation Administration did not send a crash investigator.

The accident occurred at about 8:30 a.m. Thursday near the Eustis airport south of County Road 44, according to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

The pilot had been making his first solo flight when the crash occurred.
