The Florida Department of Law Enforcement has ruled that the shooting death of Ocala Police Officer Jared Forsyth was a “tragic accident.”
The 33-year-old died after the accidental shooting on April 6 at gun range during training exercises.
The State Attorney’s Office on Friday released the FDLE report following their review. FDLE concluded it was a “tragic accident, and not the result of criminal conduct” and no further actions will be taken by their office.
“Due to the conclusion of the criminal investigation, the Ocala Police Department will conduct its internal investigation into this matter, in order to address policy and conduct,” OPD said in a statement.
“We have requested the assistance of the Training Division at FDLE in order to look over policies in place and address any issues or concerns,” the statement said.
Officer Anthony Reghetti, whose gun was involved in the incident at the shooting range, will return to his full-time patrol assignment, effective Monday, July 27. He had been temporarily relieved of those duties during the investigation.
