A 44-year-old convicted felon was arrested with a stolen firearm shortly after 11 p.m. Monday after being spotted at County Road 466 and U.S. Hwy. 301.
A Sumter County sheriff’s deputy noticed a vehicle without working tag lights.
The deputy pulled the vehicle over and noticed the smell of burnt marijuana. A K-9 unit was dispatched and the dog alerted on the vehicle.
The driver and a passenger were asked to step out of the vehicle and deputies found a pistol on the floor of the vehicle, according to the arrest report. They also found a burnt marijuana cigarette in the ashtray, the report indicated.
A criminal history check showed that the driver, Anthony Scott Hagins of Ocala, had two prior felony convictions.
It was discovered that the firearm had been stolen from Mount Dora in 2008.
Hagins was arrested on charges of carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a weapon by a felon, grand theft of a firearm and possession of marijuana.
He was transported to the Sumter County Detention Center where bond was set at $15,000.
