FHP called in to investigate accident at Birchbrook Villas

The Florida Highway Patrol has been called in to investigate a car crash that occurred Tuesday morning at the entrance to the Birchbrook Villas.

The car was lodged near the entrance to the villas which are located behind Mulberry Grove Plaza.

A 911 caller reported shortly after 8 a.m. that the single vehicle went over a retaining wall and the rear end of the vehicle was still in the air, according to Marion County Fire Rescue.

The driver was entrapped in the wreckage.

Engine Company #27 from MCFR’s Weirsdale station arrived on scene at 8:23 a.m. and immediately requested additional units to assist in the vehicle stabilization and patient extrication. Firefighters from the Villages Station #10, Villages of Marion Attack 42, and Summerfield Station #30 arrived on scene to assist with vehicle stabilization.

The patient was extricated from the vehicle and transported as a trauma alert to a local hospital.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
