FHP seeks vehicle that fled scene of fatal accident in Marion County

The Florida Highway Patrol is seeking a vehicle that fled the scene of a fatal accident early Wednesday morning on Interstate 75.

A 32-year-old Newberry man was struck at 6 a.m. by an unknown vehicle which was traveling south on U.S. 41, north of the intersection of SW 54th Street, according to an accident report from FHP.

The man has not been identified pending notification of next of kin.

The unknown vehicle fled the scene.

Two other vehicles, which were traveling south on U.S. 41 some time later, drove over the the man who was lying in the roadway. Both vehicles returned to the scene and remained until the FHP arrived.

The Florida Highway Patrol is looking for an unknown vehicle with possible front end damage, hood damage, or windshield damage. Anyone with information about the driver and or vehicle involved in this crash is asked to contact the FHP Communications Center in Jacksonville at 1-800-387-1290.
