Florida Highway Patrol seeking help from public in hit-and-run accident in Marion County

The Florida Highway Patrol is seeking help from the public in a hit-and-run accident Friday afternoon on State Road 200 in Marion County.

James Shaw, 22, of Ocala was driving a 2002 Chevy Cavalier and an unknown vehicle were heading eastbound on SR 200 when traffic stopped abruptly, according to an FHP accident report. Shaw failed to stop behind the second driver, causing the front of Shaw’s vehicle to hit the rear of the unknown vehicle. That vehicle continued eastbound, fleeing the scene.

Shaw was transported to Ocala Regional Medical Center where he was being treated for serious injuries. He was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.

A witness described the unknown vehicle as a white Honda CRV SUV with silver or chrome accents, tinted windows and a damaged rear bumper and lift gate. If anyone has any information regarding the crash or the unknown vehicle, please call Trooper Jeff Hilliard at the Ocala FHP station at 1-800-387-1290.
