A former state American Legion Auxiliary official has been sentenced to 33 months in prison for embezzling more than a half a million dollars from the organization.
Robin C. Briere, 64, of Clermont, wrote $657,000 worth of checks to herself. She reportedly used the money on concert tickets, furniture and jewelry. The checks were written between 2007 and 2014.
In some instances, Briere used the American Legion Auxiliary credit card to pay her personal expenses.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and prosecuted in federal court.Â
