Fernando and Forte open three-night run at Tropicana in Las Vegas

Forte opened its three-night run Saturday at the famed Tropicana in Las Vegas.

The trio who made a big name for itself earlier this year on “America’s Got Talent”  wraps up Monday night at the Tropicana.

Fernando Varela, a longtime favorite in The Villages, makes up one-third of the trio of tenors.

After finishing fourth on “America’s Got Talent,” the trio recorded a CD, appeared at Carnegie Hall and performed at the National Tree Lighting ceremony in Washington D.C. before President Obama.

It’s hard to believe that two weeks ago, Fernando stunned the Italian Paisans Club by walking onstage at their event at SeaBreeze Recreation Center. (You can see a clip from that performance at http://villages-news.com/13117/)

And it’s been a major transformation for the group to go from revving itself up for a single big performance on “America’s Got Talent” to a 90-minute show at the Tropicana.

“We’ve kind of had that mindset as we’ve been putting the show together, this is not Carnegie Hall, this is Las Vegas, home to some of the greatest entertainers in our history,” Varela told the Las Vegas Review Journal in an interview earlier this week.

Fernando will be back in The Villages soon, performing in January at New Covenant United Methodist Life Center.

There will be two concerts Friday, Jan. 24 (at 5 and 8 p.m.) and Saturday, Jan. 25 (at 3 and 7 p.m.)

Tickets are available through The Villages Box Office.
