Foster maintains lead, Salute falls to 3rd in Villages Golf Championship

In the men’s division of The Villages Golf Championship on Wednesday Bill Foster maintained his place at the top of the list with a one-over par 73, for a combined two day total of 143.

Foster had a few bad breaks on the final couple of holes.

“That’s golf. I made some putts I probably shouldn’t have so things seem to equal out,” Foster said.

Dan Chiappetta, the 2013 Men’s Village Champion, made a charge with a 1-under round of 71, for a combined two day total of 146.

Russ Jimeson also had a tough finish to his round.

“I lost my ball on my last hole and made double bogey.  We all thought the ball was in the bunker but we never found it,” he said.

Jimeson went 3 over on the final two holes for a 76, and a combined two day total of 179. Jimeson shot his age Tuesday with a round of 73 from the gold tees.

Rounding off the top four in the men’s division was Tom Gallagher who fired an even par round of 72 Wednesday, for a combined two day total of 150.  These four will tee off at 1:56 on Friday on the Hemingway nine of Havana Country Club.

In the ladies division there were major changes in the leaderboard.   Consistency seems to have paid off so far as Cathleen Marquis shot her second consecutive round of 73, for a two day total of 146.  Kay Schnept move up the leaderboard to second place with her second consecutive round of 74, for a two day total of 148.

First round-leader Priscilla Salute who said she had a very tough day on the greens, slid to a second round 79, for a two day total of 149.  These ladies will tee off at around 1230 also on the Hemingway nine of Havana Country Club on Friday.

On Friday, the men’s and women’s Villages Champion will be crowned at Havana Country Club.

Golf course deserves a failing grade
