Four local students named as winners of Harold S. Schwartz Music Scholarships

Four local students were announced as recipients of Harold S. Schwartz Music Scholarships on Thursday night at Laurel Manor Recreation Center.

The Opera Club presented the scholarships to:

• Ryan Gamerino of Vanguard High School, who plays alto sax, was presented with a $10,000 scholarship.

• Marques Rudd of Tavares High School. who plays clarinet, was presented with a $8,000 scholarship.

• Jorge Gauvin Caraballo, of  Eustis High School, who plays the tuba, was presented with a $6,000 scholarship.

• An Encouragement Award in the amount of $1,000 was awarded to flutist, Emily Febo of Mounty Dora High School  

In 1997, the Harold Schwartz Music Scholarship Program was established in honor of the founder of The Villages, to encourage the love and performance of this classical art form, by supporting the study of music.
