Fox News personality Brian Kilmeade to return to The Villages

Fox News personality Brian Kilmeade will return to The Villages Barnes & Noble in Lake Sumter Landing on Thursday, Dec. 7  as a part of a tour for his latest book “Andrew Jackson and the Miracle of New Orleans.”

The event begins at 5 p.m.

Kilmeade is no stranger to Florida’s Friendliest Hometown, since this would be his fourth visit. In an interview with Villages-News.com, he praised the knowledge of the Villagers and their strong patriotism, expressing his excitement for his return.

After finishing “Thomas Jefferson and the Tripoli Pirates,” Kilmeade said he wanted to do something that would come “next logically.” Inspired by his love for American history, the National Anthem and the White House, Kilmeade thought of the War of 1812.

With the help of Don Yaeger, who co-authors the book, Kilmeade tells the story of a battle of the War of 1812 that many might not have learned in their history classes. The book focuses on the leadership exhibited by Andrew Jackson, a major general at the time, whose military efforts prevented the British from taking a hold of New Orleans. From rounding up various groups of people to successfully battling the British army, these efforts created the “miracle of New Orleans,” saving American trade routes on the Mississippi River from British control.

When asked how Kilmeade could convince those who view Andrew Jackson as a controversial figure to read his book, the Fox News personality said that Jackson’s humble beginnings, – becoming an orphan as a young teen and a prisoner of war in the Revolutionary War – his military aptitude and leadership make him an “American of impact.”
