Frankie Brin Financial competes in FHCASA Opening Day 2017 Tournament

Frankie Brin Financial (FBF) 70’s traveled to Kissimmee , Fl., Osceola Softball Complex to participate in the FHCASA Opening Day 2017 Tournament on January 7 – 8. The team went 3-1 in the top bracket of the 70’s-plus Division. The Florida Venom went 4-0 to win the tournament. The format for the tournament was 2 pitch, meaning that the batter started with a 2 ball and two strike count with a 30 minute time limit for each game. After 30 minutes, you complete the inning and play one more inning. Most games in this bracket were rained out on Saturday. Therefore, 4 games were played on Sunday. FBF was on fire during the first two games winning the first 32-1 over Senior Moments and 14-0 over Fred’s Market. The game against Senior Moments was a relatively close game 9-1 until the last inning, an open inning. FBF scored 23 run, sending 29 players to the plate. During that inning, Roy Hern hit a 3 run Inside the Park HR (ITP), Darrel Smith hit a Grand Slam Over The Fence HR, and Floyd Williams hit a 2 run ITP HR. For the game, Floyd Williams had 6 RBI, Roy Hern, Darrel Smith and Jim Greco each had 5 RBI. The 3rd game of the day was against Florida Venom for the championship. The Venom won 9-7. DAV 70s forfeited the 4th game. Roger Scott pitched all 3 games in windy conditions and did a terrific job. Leading hitters for Frankie Brin Financial, John Rebardo (1.000) 2-2, Jim Greco (.900) 9-10, 7 RBI, Bob Buchanan (.889) 7 RBI, Gary Nicholay and Roy Hern (.818) with Roy getting 8 RBI and ITP HR, Floyd Williams (.778) 8 RBI w/an ITP HR, Roger Scott (.727), Rod Severson (.667), Carl Roberts (.625), Darrel Smith (.600) 7 RBI and Grand Slam HR, Dick Kanyan (.556), and Carter Honkonen (.333).
