Freedom Pointe chaplain branches out with new church

Pastor Ed DeVries
Pastor Ed DeVries at Village of Grace Baptist Church. The new church will offer a special service this Sunday welcoming members of the community.

Many who come to The Villages find themselves on a journey of faith.

Many seek a church like the one back home. Others are exploring new ways to worship.

If you are looking for a church of tradition, the new Village of Grace Baptist Church located on Highway 301 in Oxford might be for you.

“We use the King James Bible and music from the Baptist hymn book,” said Pastor Ed DeVries.

In his role as Freedom Pointe chaplain, he witnessed the spiritual journey many find themselves on when they move to The Villages.

“We try to be as traditional as possible,” DeVries said.

The church’s tiny membership originally met in a room at Freedom Pointe. When they outgrew that room, they moved to a room at the Holiday Inn Express in The Villages.

Now the church is taking over the old structure which was originally the Oxford Assembly of God (which is in the midst of a major expansion down the road from the new Village of Grace Baptist Church.)

Village of Grace Baptist Church is offering a special service at 11 a.m. Sunday at their new home at 11896 Highway 301. You can join church members for a potluck breakfast at 10 a.m.

You can also enjoy a performance by the Village-View Southern Gospel Quartet.
