A man and woman were simultaneously arrested on drunk driving charges early Tuesday morning near the entrance to Brownwood.

Melissa A. Emberson, 33, of Ocala was pulled over at 2:10 a.m. in the parking lot of Cody’s at Brownwood after her vehicle was spotted swerving in traffic on State Road 44, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.

She told the deputy she was on her way to City Fire to drop off a friend who had left her car there. She told the deputy she had not been drinking but then failed field sobriety exercises.

At 2:30 a.m., another deputy pulled over a second vehicle driven by Randolph Merrel Weaver, 26, of Wildwood at the Brownwood entrance. Weaver had nearly hit the deputy’s vehicle, the arrest report indicated.

He told the deputy he was checking on the well-being of his friend who he had heard had been pulled over. He also failed field sobriety exercises.

Both Emberson and Weaver were booked on charges of driving under the influence at the Sumter County Detention Center. Bond for each was set at $1,000.
