Fruitland Park man arrested on DUI, probation violation at MVP parking lot

A 26-year-old Fruitland Park man was jailed without bond following his arrest on a probation violation in the parking lot of MVP Athletic Club in Brownwood.

Mason Edward Shuford had been observed late Thursday night by a Sumter County sheriff’s deputy traveling 71 miles per hour in a 55 mph zone on State Road 44 at Powell Road.

The deputy stopped Shuford’s vehicle in the MVP parking lot. The deputy asked Shuford if he had ben drinking to which Shuford replied he had consumed “about four beers and one shot,” according to the arrest report.

Shuford failed field sobriety exercises.

He was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center. He was also found to be in violation bond so he was initially being held without bond.
