Fund-raising concert to celebrate the music of the 1940s

The big band sounds of the Benny Goodman, Tommy Dorsey and Glen Miller orchestras as well as the dulcet harmony of the Andrews Sisters will once again get toes tapping and voices raised in song at the Concert, Music of World War II, on Tuesday, Jan. 16, 6 p.m., at the North Lake Presbyterian Church, 975 Rolling Acres Road (next to Home Depot).

The annual, patriotic-inspired musical program is sponsored by The Villages’ World War II History Club as part of its fund raising initiatives on behalf of The Villages Honor Flight.

“Last year’s proceeds of $14,000 supported the organization’s efforts for veterans throughout 2017,” said Bruce Miller, the event organizer and emcee. “The concert showcases the performance of the Villages All-Stars Band — a 20-piece ensemble featuring The Villages’ best musicians as well as two very talented vocalists.”

Tickets, at $10, are sold only on a pre-event basis and will not be available at the door.

Last year 1,400 tickets were purchased and the concert quickly sold-out.

For tickets, Contact Club members Liza at 352.753.9664, Margaret at 352.575.1019 or Miller at 352.391.1149.

“We also are inviting a select group of World War II veterans to be our special guests,” Miller said.

The Club’s monthly meetings, bringing together veterans and others interested in learning about the War, often feature a World War II-themed movie and follow-up discussion. Call one of the above for more information.
